The Aliens & Flames project aims to support the use of prescribed burning for fuel management in areas with invasive plant species, and to explore the opportunity that prescribed burning represents to manage the populations of these species. In order to attain these objectives, a deeper knowledge will be needed about the ecological relationships between fire and the invasive plant species under study. The project intends to obtain this knowledge through the development and implementation of field and laboratory experiments, dedicated to support the management of plant communities with occurrence of invasive species. The two main species under study are two aggressive plant invaders native to Australia: silver wattle (Acacia dealbata) and silky hakea (Hakea sericea).
